Helping patients move beyond cancer

Helping patients move beyond cancer

Acupuncture has been well documented and widely used to alleviate cancer treatment side effects such as:

  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Pain
  • Stress, Anxiety and Depression
  • Chemo-Induced Neuropathy
  • Hot Flashes
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation and Diarrhea
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Immune Support

Additionally, by incorporating acupuncture into your oncology care, you may be able to decrease the number of medications in your regimen.  We will work closely with your oncology team in providing a treatment plan and supporting your care.  Our knowledge of blood chemistry allows us to explain lab results as well as use your blood work as a tool in your recovery.  This integrative approach to cancer treatment is shown to be highly effective in patient outcomes.

During recovery, acupuncture can help side effects of pain medications and assist in increasing your range of motion, getting you back to yourself sooner.  We will develop a unique transition plan for each patient incorporating nutrition, detox protocols, manual therapies and continued immune support.

Both Agnes and Mari have additional training from the MD Anderson Cancer Center Integrative Medicine program and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in utilizing acupuncture in oncology.

Highland Lakes Acupuncture provided services in the infusion room at Texas Oncology Central.  This has allowed us to treat many patients during active chemotherapy infusions, building experience and expertise.

We also provided care to participants of Stiletto Stampede for the Cure "Boob Camp" rehabilitation program.  This program focuses on breast cancer survivors as they recover from various surgeries.  We use acupuncture to alleviate pain and discomfort, stimulate tissue regeneration to aid in scar repair and increasing mobility.
